It might be winter, but it’s HOT HOT HOT here in the studio. I am so excited to share with you my very first 2024 calendar which is titled ‘Magnificent Women’. It features a detail of larger paintings for each month that could be framed. I tried to connect the figure with a significant date for each month. For example, in September you’ll find my ‘Homage to the Red Dress’ in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and in May, of course, my ‘Motherlove’. Order now for holiday giving.

Last WE it was our 6th annual Gifts for the Soul holiday market and it was a wonderful show with many beautiful creations from our participants. Our FREE DRAW was won by Anne who mentioned that she never wins anything. She was overwhelmed with all the treasures in the bag. It was indeed a pleasure to meet so many people who have made our show the one they have to attend and to meet new friends. Many commented on the high quality of the arts we had, not your average craft fair. This really pleased me to hear as that is what we had envisioned when we started out 6 years ago.

Coming up I am honoured to be part of a holiday market that is celebrating it’s 21st year in operation. Karen Franzen and Friends holiday show is happening Fri. Dec 8, 6-9pm, and Sat and Sun Dec 9 & 10, 10-5 at 3 Wembley Drive. Have you been a good little art lover this year? I certainly hope so because the sacks at Gifts for the Soul are overflowing with lots and lots of enticing prezzies for you. All the elves have been polishing the jewellery, adding sparkles, and dreaming up all sorts of beautiful objects.

This year I have a bumper crop of gorgeous art cards, framed prints (under $75) and my 2024 calendar of Magnificent Women. As well I have some giclees (prints on canvas). The colour reproduction is quite amazing. You can hardly tell the difference from the original. The prices for these giclees are considerably less than the original. I invite you to visit my website and consider a giclee as I can order almost any original in a print.

Next week I will be doing more work on my website to make it easy for you to see which painting you’d like in a print. It’s beginning to look a lot like….

Holiday Greetings are in the air

It’s been super busy here at Santa’s workshop while I create cards and prints and the grey cells have been in overdrive learning how to do all sorts of things involving the computer. I used to have a mantra ‘I embrace my inner techie’ in an effort to come to peace with learning new computer programs but it does end in tears sometimes.

How the heck did I ever operate a linear accelerator?! My poor co-workers were often challenged with my little hissy fits. Honest!

Who knew that having computer skills would help my artistic career? I’m very excited to share with you my first calendar for 2024. I’ll be checking the sample tomorrow and hopefully have it ready for the Gifts for the Soul holiday market next Sat, Nov 25.

There will be a wonderful selection of small prints and cards all ready for you at budget friendly prices though. Hopefully you will agree that the colours are spot on and the prices are excellent. If you haven’t begun your Gail Williams collection, now is the time to start.

I took a few pics of some cards and a framed print to give you an idea of some of the images I’ll have available. There will also be some giclees and original paintings for you to enjoy. I can order prints for almost any of my paintings. Of course the prices are much less than an original but still gorgeous.

We are so looking forward to sharing our talents with you at St Matthews Clubhouse, 450 Broadview Ave on Sat Nov 25, 9:30-4pm. Please tell all your friends and bring a few BFFs with you.

Gratitude is a Gift for the Soul

Not a lot of chat today. But definitely a whole lot of GRATITUDE.

It’s because of you and people like you who appreciate my art that I do what I do. Last week, I was invited to lunch with one of my SUPER collectors, Andrea. She spoiled me with homemade pasta and French pastry and lots of delightful conversation. Her last purchase from me was ‘The Queen’ which she has renamed ‘My Queen’. As soon as she saw it at my solo show in April, she felt a deep connection that swelled my heart with gratitude. As you can see she has made quite a collection of my art and graciously allowed me to photograph her lovely home with my art in place. I am honoured that so many people are drawn to my work. It is very humbling to know that my art resonates with so many.

This year I am preparing prints all framed and ready to hang on the wall as well as more cards. I’m also hoping to get a 2024 calendar ready for you with a different painting for each month starring a series of MAGNIFICENT WOMEN. Something new for me will be a selection of embellished giclees. Giclees are prints on canvas. I’ve chosen a company that uses top quality inks , canvas and paper.

Did you know that I have had several ‘15’ minutes of fame? The first time was when I was 2 years old patting a cow at the local fair that started my love affair with cows. The next time was when I was 9 years old and won our local paper’s Christmas colour contest. Even back then I loved bright colours. I used to stay inside the lines then but as you know that’s gone out the window. I’m encouraging Fox and Theo to deliberately go outside the lines…I’m a devil that way.

Just in case you’re interested in life drawing, I thought I’d mention that I am part of the Central Connection life drawing on Monday nights at the community centre at Withrow park. Three hours with a live model, mostly nude but some costumed. There is no instruction. You can join for the year for $60.00 and pay a drop in fee of $10.00 or just drop in for $20.00. It really is a bargain and with a great group of friendly artists. Call me for more details.

Have you got your costume ready? We used to go to Hallowe’en parties every year when we were young’uns. My most creative was making a costume for myself as a belly dancer and Ron as a sheik complete with turban and velvet cutaway vest to show off his 6 pack(lol) Those were the days! What was your favourite costume?

My days are now filled with creating for the holiday shows I’ve planned. I’m adding more prints and cards to have on offer as well as some original work. You can see the dates at the end of this message. If there is a particular painting you’d like in a print, please let me know. I know you have a favourite or two. All you have to do is review my website or my IG posts. I already have some requests.

This week I’m sharing a beautiful little painting I recently completed. Be the first to send me a message that you HAVE TO HAVE IT. We can arrange a delivery. If you are already a client, don’t forget your super saver discount. I will be making prints of it both on paper and giclee if that suits your budget better.

I’m also seeing progress in my website. Slow but sure. You know that this tech side is not my favourite thing. Thank goodness I have lots of helpers.

At the bottom of my pictures you’ll see the charming town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. We had a lovely time touring the surrounding countryside. Just one of the many islands you could explore.

Of course no trip to Scotland is complete without the obligatory whisky tasting. I was successful in my self imposed challenge to try a new one every day. Whew…it was such hard work!

HAIRY WHAT?

How have you been? It seems like ages since I’ve sent you some info and from my opening line you might have figured out that I’ve been to Scotland. Although if you heard me, I think you’d agree that my accent is crrrap. 

My travel buddy, Dorothy, and I spent 2 weeks visiting the stunning country of Braveheart, the highlands, the lowlands and home to some very beautiful long haired Highland cattle the locals call ‘coos’ Our bus group named them Hairy Moos and we had quite a few photo ops granted to us. Whisky tastings, castle viewing and the fabulous art of Charles Rennie McIntosh and Margaret MacDonald filled our days with delight. If you’d ever like some recommendations please ask. It’s definitely worth the trip.

We made friends from all over …the States, the UK and Europe. What a great bunch of interesting and enthusiastic travel partners. Dee and I usually enjoy doing things on our own but being with a group of like minded souls who turned into friends was a highlight of this trip.

I’ve added a few pics of the Hairy Coos and some of McIntosh’s wonderful creations. 

The fall art season is gearing up and I will have several venues to invite you to in the near future. 

You may have asked if I do PRINTS and I think it is time to get serious about deciding which pieces are print worthy. I would love your feedback on which pieces you would like in a print. There will be several different sizes and I will offer both paper and canvas prints (which are called giclees) Of course there is no obligation on your part, I would really like to know which artworks of mine are your favourites.

On another note, I am revamping my website so if it is ‘out of service’ for a moment, please check back in. My webmistress is pretty speedy but her source (me) is not always. (LOL)

AND JUST LIKE THAT!

So here we are again.. the start of a new year ended with such a blast… of heat! 

Perhaps you are one of those who like a heat wave, but I am not among that group. It actually makes me very crabby and unhappy, just saps the energy out of me. Just sayin’. 

I hope that you had a wonderful summer and did some fun things. Mine was spent up in Paradise (aka Thunder Bay). We were so fortunate to be able to spend time with Joanna, Fox and Theo and with Ingrie and Ritchie in their new home there. The boys were excited to go Sasquwatch hunting. Thank goodness they didn’t find one. They did find the cold waters of Lake Superior very enticing though. 

Now it’s back to business. To start the season off, we are having our first OPEN STUDIO this WE at StudioMack. You are invited to see where the magic happens at 63 Mack Ave, Unit 12 on Sat Sept 9, 12-5. There is free parking at the rear of the building and the weather is cooperating so we will be able to have our loading dock door wide open.

You will find 4 painters and one weaver. I hope that we can persuade Philippe to do some demonstrating with his incredible loom. If you want to check out some of their work, you can find them all on instagram.

It’s been a hot time in the city hasn’t it? I hope you’re able to get outta Dodge some time soon. I’ve not missed one summer in northern Ontario except for the Covid year. FEELIN HOT! HOT! HOT!

Love it or hate it…it really doesn’t matter does it? This is our summer and with all our moaning about winter you’d think we’d realize we just have to give in. Or move to …..I was going to write down Paradise (aka Thunder Bay) but then I remembered they do get minus 50 sometimes. Plus a whole lot of snow. My strategy is to slow down and sit in the AC. And visit friends who have pools (thanks Dee) Although the addition of refreshing cocktails served by attractive models would also be nice. But her building does not have that amenity. ):

During the summer months I do not partake in any outdoor art fairs. I’m focussing my efforts to get my art out there by applying to galleries for representation. If you’re visiting somewhere you think my art would be a good fit, I’d really appreciate hearing about it.

If you’ve got a road trip in mind, please visit my art in the Ahnisnabae Gallery in Thunder Bay. As I grew up there, Louise has kindly displayed my paintings in the past and now has 5 pieces in her amazing space. She has a stunning collection of indigenous art from across Canada. 2023-20 Living Artfully with Gail

Hello Dear Art Lover

HAPPY CANADA DAY !

Are you the type to plan your summer down to the last detail or are you a ‘just go with the flow’ kind of person? When I worked full time as a radiation therapist, we had to choose our holidays a year in advance due to the structure of that job. So I got used to planning the valuable vacation time. But now that I have the summer spread out I tend to be a little more relaxed as to when and how I’ll spend the precious days of warmth.

This year I’ll be going up to PARADISE, (aka Thunder Bay) as I mentioned before, but I’ll also be able to take the darling and busy grandsons hiking the ravines in Toronto and swimming in Lake Ontario. It doesn’t take much for 2 boys to make an adventure out of anything.

It was a great trip to Paris, ON to deliver some paintings to the very welcoming and gorgeous Taren White Gallery. Tracy and I were Thelma and Louise, (without the cliff) as we found our way down to that lovely town. I’m attaching a few photos of the art that will be on the walls for the months of July, August and September. I hope you take the drive.
